Anyone out there looking for a great Medical Receptionist/Lab Assistant???
I really dislike looking for a job. I'm not good at it. I find talking to people about "what I can offer them" awkward and uncomfortable. Running all over Niagara Falls dropping off resumes is completely disheartening, especially when you look at the person and say "Hi how are you? Would I be able to drop off a resume here?" and they look at you with a dropped face that seems to say "why? is my job on the line or something? Do you know something I don't know?". I also get bummed when they say "Oh yes, please do because we are hiring right now" but you call back a week after dropping off the resume to hear "Sorry but we are not hiring at this time". Huh??? Oh well.
Sorry I know I'm whining and that isn't a great quality to have in a new employee. I guess what I'm really hoping for here is some input/advice. Anyone have any suggestions as to how I can go about this diffently? I've tried applying on-line and find a lot of the time the job search site hasn't updated in a while and you learn you just applied for a job that was filled 6 months ago!!!
Working from home would be ideal but because it would be ideal we know that won't happen!!! Perhaps I could run away and join the circus...although I hear they only earn peanuts!!! Get it...peanuts!!! Ha. Well, it is important to have a good sense of humour through difficult times.
Please pray for me, if you could with all this job search stuff. I had a dream one night (after getting some excellent advice from Chrissy) that showed me I should really be focusing on where God wants me to work and not just apply to the places I think I'm trained and qualified to work. So maybe working at Tim Horton's isn't that bad of an idea after all. I could tell each customer as they leave "Jesus loves you" and see if that could lead to further conversation. Perhaps I could even get a job in the kitchen icing the donuts to read "Smile Jesus loves you and so do I".
Well, I should go. I've got to find the newspaper and hit the want ads again. Thanks for reading my rant.
Mich :-)

You WILL find a job, it's just a matter of time. God always takes care of his kids. Having said that, I also hate and get discouraged by the job search process.
Last semester we had someone from the job centre give a talk to our students about how to find work. She said that many good employers don't advertise on the sites like Monster because they get too many applicants to weed through. Instead they prefer people to show the initiative in contacting them or researching their websites to find out whether or not there's a job. So it sounds like you're on the right track. Don't get discouraged; this is temporary! Just wait until you find your new, fabulous job!
Praying for you!
Hey, nice screaming banshee! :)
